Bleed Blue baby!
India did it! India actually did it. It was an unbelievable moment in the cricket history for India and the world! India won the cup after 28 years – nearly THREE decades of wait. MS. Dhoni, the captain of the men in blue remained calmed and composed throughout the tournament, only to completely let loose after nailing a six in the 3rd ball of the second last over to deliver what can only be described as a glorious six and a photo finish to a world cup final!
What a fantastic journey it has been for India! – Let’s recap for a bit. India defeated Australia, the world’s top ranked team, winner of the World Cup for the past 12 years to move to the semi-finals against an equally stellar team, Pakistan. Pakistan and India have been dueling it out on the pitches across the globe since the sport became international and any time either of the two teams are facing each other, the world comes to a stop in both the cricket addicted nations! The match was intense to watch from the start till the very end and resulted India being victorious. For the most part, everyone was convinced this was the final. But April 2nd, India vs. Sri Lanka – a showdown nobody really expected took place in Mumbai, India. India essentially faced the fiercest three teams each round to move to the next, and India earned its victory each and every round. Bloody spectacular is all I can say.
What’s interesting about the Finals is, the toss took place twice because the umpire of the game didn’t hear who called heads the 1st time around – and this event, a second toss in a World Cup Final is virtually unheard of. The game was also India’s chance to end its 28-year dry spell, and nearly 9 hours of adrenaline-pumping action later, India was victorious, and won the World Cup in Mumbai, India. What a proud moment it was for Indians in India and worldwide!
Men In Blue – it’s been a privilege to watch you play, and Sachin, the God of cricket – glad you finally got yourself a WC title, after 22 years of continuous play for the nation. You truly deserved the credit given to you by the entire Indian cricket team. I am glad to have been part of the generation to have seen you play, towering up massive totals and insane statistics in the sport – untouchable by any other player in cricket of this generation, or the next.
